Healthcare coverage and access has come to the forefront of national conversation as costs skyrocket and exploitative policies have barred people from the care that they need. NAPAWF*NYC wants to take a closer look at what healthcare looks like for the most vulnerable of of our community: immigrant AAPI women.
Did you know? Immigrants are prohibited from accessing public, affordable health insurance like Medicaid and CHIP until they’ve been in the U.S. for five years. This arbitrary five-year waiting period was put in place by politicians intent on denying immigrants access to programs that their tax dollars already support.
Being healthy shouldn't depend on immigration status. A five year wait for insurance to go to the doctor could mean delayed diagnoses and treatments, and ultimately be a death sentence.
The HEAL for Immigrant Women and Families Act is the first step toward ensuring immigrant women and their families can access crucial and comprehensive healthcare that is central to their agency and their lives, their families, and their communities.

NAPAWF New York City's The Study Group is an article club that meets regularly in order to further educate ourselves and each other on current issues that impact our communities. This is a dedicated space for civic-minded AAPI women and gender queer people to thoughtfully unpack issues, learn, and unlearn.
NAPAWF New York City builds power with members to advance social justice and human rights for AAPI women and girls, transgender, gender non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals in New York. We are a community of AAPI feminist visionaries and doers, dedicated to using our respective skills and expertise to raise our voices, take bold, meaningful action, and lift up our community.
